We understand that the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) find no public safety issues with bioengineered ingredients and all GMO products meet the same standards as traditional food ingredients. For our products other than Non-GMO Project Verified and Organic, Snyder’s-Lance does not actively source GMO free ingredients, does not test for bioengineered ingredients and does not certify the bioengineered status of our products.
Pursuant to the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010 (SB 657) (the “Act”), beginning January 1, 2012, manufacturers must disclose their efforts to eradicate slavery and human trafficking from their supply chains for products sold in California. As a responsible corporate citizen, Snyder’s-Lance, Inc. (the “Company”) is committed to ensuring that slavery and human trafficking do not exist in our supply chain.
The Company has initiated a process to evaluate our supply chain to ensure compliance with the Act’s disclosure requirements and enable customers to eliminate products from their supply chain that have been produced by victims of slavery or human trafficking.
The Company requires all direct suppliers to certify in writing that the materials used in the manufacture of products purchased from each supplier comply with all existing local, federal and state laws regarding slavery and human trafficking in the country or countries in which the supplier does business.
The Company will perform certain periodic audits of our direct suppliers, including our contract manufacturers. In connection with such audits, the Company is incorporating a tool to track each supplier’s ongoing compliance with the Act.
The Company will work with grocery, retailer and manufacturing industry groups and associations in the interest of participating in industry-wide initiatives to eliminate products from supply chains that have been produced by victims of slavery or human trafficking.
